East China board approves learning subscriptions, reading materials and two-year teachers’ contract
Summary
At its Aug. 25 meeting the East China School District Board of Education unanimously approved the renewal of Edmentum Exact Path licenses, the purchase of McGraw Hill Corrective Reading materials, accepted a student-discipline recommendation and ratified a two-year agreement with the East China Education Association.
The East China School District Board of Education voted unanimously Aug. 25 to approve a set of administration-recommended purchases for classroom instruction and to ratify a two-year contract with the district teachers’ association.
Per administration recommendation, the board approved renewal of Edmentum Exact Path licenses using 31a funding for $44,865.50. The motion to approve the Edmentum subscription was made by Lindsay Chopp and seconded by Shawn Treadaway; the vote was 7–0.
The board also approved purchase of McGraw Hill’s Corrective Reading Decoding A–C series, to be paid from 35J funding, for $51,682.40. That motion was offered by Karen Cedar, seconded by Lindsay Chopp, and carried 7–0.
Following a closed-session hearing on a disciplinary matter, the board accepted the administration’s recommendation for student case 2022-03. The acceptance was moved by Jamie Haslem, seconded by Karen Cedar, and approved unanimously.
Finally, the board approved a contract agreement between the East China School District and the East China Education Association (MEA/ECEA) covering Aug. 26, 2025 through Aug. 25, 2027. The contract was approved on a 7–0 vote after a motion by Lindsay Chopp and second by Karen Cedar.
Superintendent Cybulla provided opening remarks welcoming the community to the 2025–26 school year, and Vice President Karen Cedar noted that Thrun policy-update summaries are available in BoardBook; policy revisions will be returned for formal vote at the next regular meeting. No members of the public spoke during the public-comment period.
The meeting was called to order by President Michael Westrick at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
