Committee hears Mortlake Fire Company boiler quotes; discusses truck replacement and other requests

The Capital Expenditure Committee on March 23 reviewed several non-security capital requests, including a Mortlake Fire Company boiler replacement and a Public Works truck request.
Mike Podzaline told the committee that the Mortlake Fire Company’s request for a new boiler had been approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners and that three quotes were on the table: EMCOR Services New England Mechanical at $46,641.00; ESC Environmental Systems Co. at $82,210.00; and Grodsky in the $80,000–$90,000 range. Podzaline said he would make calls to reconcile bid assumptions and report back once bids were consistent.
The committee also discussed a Public Works request for a 2026 truck to replace a 2015 Ford, with the stated requested amount of $60,613.00. Committee members noted ongoing equipment issues with the older truck and flagged the replacement as a capital priority to be balanced within the committee’s overall $310,000 capital cap for the year.
Members noted that East Brooklyn’s request for hydraulic equipment was not approved by the Board of Fire Commissioners. Other items discussed included a $9,200 request from the Land Use Department for an environmental control system in the Green Building basement, which was tabled because no representative was present to present the request.
Dave Lee moved to adjourn at 7:26 p.m.; John Burns seconded and the meeting ended without final votes on the above capital items. The committee will resume deliberations at its March 30 meeting.
