Brooklyn board seeks voter backing for roughly $10 million districtwide HVAC upgrade

She said the project estimate is approximately $10 million and that it is eligible for an estimated 69% state reimbursement rate.
Mrs. Raynor said the district will pursue a non‑priority construction grant, which she said would open for applications on April 1, 2026, and that she, Business Manager Rebecca S. DiBenedetto and Facilities Director Mr. Barrette will prepare the application. The agenda packet posted to the district website, she added, includes ventilation reports and other supporting documents.
Board Chair Mae Lyons and members discussed the project’s scope; Mrs. Burgess noted that the estimate includes a contingency to avoid future funding requests. Mrs. Raynor also referenced a recent security and safety audit that recommended keeping windows closed, underscoring the district’s interest in reliable HVAC and ventilation systems for safety and comfort.
The board did not vote on the project during the March 25 meeting; Mrs. Raynor said the Building Committee would present the plan and seek community support at an upcoming Town Meeting as part of the outreach and approval process. No construction contract or final appropriation was approved at the meeting.
