Personnel Committee reviews August staffing report, flags superintendent contract renewal; public commenter urges more in-school interventions

The Fruitport Community Schools Personnel Committee reviewed the district's August 2025 personnel report and discussed timing for renewing Superintendent Jason Kennedy's contract at a meeting Monday evening.

The committee examined the August personnel report, which the minutes say included recommendations for new hires, resignations, retirement notices, transfers and positions still posted and vacant; the document did not list specific counts or dollar figures. The committee also discussed the superintendent's contract, which is set to expire on June 30, 2026. The minutes state the Board will consider a contract extension at the Board meeting on Aug. 18, 2025.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, Amber Olsen said the district "does a great job with students who excel and achieve at high levels, as well as with students who qualify for special education services," and added that "additional support could be provided for the in-between students with intervention needing to take place during the school day," urging the district to expand daytime intervention for students who do not qualify for special education but need extra help.
