Flat Rock board appoints trustee, adopts policy updates and approves multiple student trips

The Flat Rock Community Schools Board of Education on Dec. 8 appointed Stephanie Ingram to fill a trustee vacancy and approved a slate of policy, tax and student-activity actions during a 37-minute regular meeting.
President Melissa Twehues called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the board unanimously approved an amended agenda that removed the Student Representative Report. The board then moved through a consent grouping that included approval of the Nov. 10 meeting minutes, finance committee minutes, general fund bills and financial reports, and the hiring of Kevin Foley as varsity baseball head coach and Morgan Kaiser as varsity softball head coach. Mrs. Engelbert moved to approve the consent agenda; Mr. Montgomery supported and the motion passed unanimously.
In new business, Frank Hamet moved and Tara AuBuchon supported a motion to appoint Stephanie Ingram to fill the Board Trustee vacancy through Dec. 31, 2026. The roll-call vote was recorded as Ayes 6, Nayes 0, Abstain 0; the motion carried.
The board adopted the Summer Tax Resolution as presented and then voted twice to adopt changes labeled "Miller Johnson School Policy Updates": first waiving a required second reading, then approving the updates. Both motions passed with unanimous support.
The board also approved several student trips: an out-of-state Anatomy field trip; overnight DECA trips to the state and national competitions; and overnight HOSA trips to the state and national competitions. Each trip motion was moved and supported as recorded in the minutes and passed unanimously.
The board adopted a separate item listed as the "31aa Resolution"; the minutes record the motion as passed with unanimous support.
