Grant Township Planning Commission approves Special Land Use for Team Thompson LLC on Spruce Ave

At its Sept. 18, 2025 meeting, the Grant Township Planning Commission approved a Special Land Use and conditional rezoning for Team Thompson LLC’s property on Spruce Ave.
The approval follows the commission’s review of the application and a recitation of conditions that must be satisfied before a zoning permit and certificate of occupancy will be issued. The commission recorded that the conditional rezoning has been approved by both the Township Board and the Planning Commission and that the zoning change’s effective date will be Sept. 24, 2025.
The commission listed specific requirements that applicants must meet before final permits are issued: applicable health, building, electrical and mechanical permits must be obtained; required signage must be installed and permitted by the Zoning Administrator; and any outstanding escrow balances must be brought up to date. The commission did not specify dollar amounts for escrow balances.
The public comment period opened at 7:15 p.m.; the minutes state that no residents attended and no comments were received. After the review of conditions, Mike Bouwkamp moved to approve the Special Land Use with the stated conditions; Jim Kendall seconded the motion and, according to the minutes, all commissioners present voted in favor.
Earlier in the meeting, Chair Brian Heminger called the session to order at 7:01 p.m., and the commission approved the minutes of the Aug. 21, 2025 meeting on a motion by Mike Bouwkamp, seconded by Edith Elsenheimer. The public comment period was closed at 7:18 p.m. on a motion by Edith Elsenheimer, seconded by Tim Martis. The hearing was closed at 7:22 p.m. on a motion by Mike Bouwkamp, seconded by Edith Elsenheimer, and the meeting was adjourned.
The commission listed its next meeting for Oct. 16 at 7 p.m., which will continue review of Master Plan goals and objectives. Minutes were submitted by Gladys VeltKamp, recording secretary/Township Clerk.
