Grant Township Planning Commission reviews draft Master Plan, sets Dec. 18 final‑draft meeting

The Grant Township Planning Commission reviewed a rough draft of the township Master Plan on Nov. 20, 2025, and set deadlines for member review and public comment ahead of a Dec. 18 meeting when the Final Draft will be delivered.
Brad, who prepared and presented the draft, explained the next steps and said commission members should submit any changes or identified errors to him by Dec. 11, 2025 to allow time for updates and completion of the Final Draft. He said the Final Draft will include the survey report and that notices will be sent to those on the required list so the public has a 65‑day review period.
Chair Brian Heminger summarized the procedural sequence after the public review: staff will prepare a recommendation to the Township board, and if the board approves that recommendation the township will hold a public hearing for resident comment before adopting and publishing the Master Plan.
During a chapter‑by‑chapter review, Brad solicited feedback and a board member pointed out a correction needed for a commercial property listing on Spruce; the commission asked that correction be made before finalization. The commission did not take final action on the Master Plan at the meeting.
On procedural business, the commission unanimously approved the Oct. 16, 2025 meeting minutes after Mike Bouwkamp moved to accept them as written and Joel Newton seconded. Mike Bouwkamp later moved to adjourn; Edith (Edie) Elsenheimer seconded and the meeting ended at 7:39 p.m.
The commission will meet next on Dec. 18, 2025 at 7 p.m., when the Final Draft of the Master Plan and the survey report are expected to be delivered for further review and next procedural steps.
