Crosby-Ironton announces April 15 open house for preschool and kindergarten registration

"We have an open house coming up next Wednesday evening. It starts at 5:00 and it's going to run until 7:00 at the Cuyuna Range Elementary School," said Abby Getz, the district's community education director. She said Principal Fisher will give two brief presentations at 5:30 and 6:00 in the performance gym.
The open house is aimed at families with children turning three, four or five by Sept. 1, 2026. "For preschool, they would have to be three or four by September 1st of 2026," Getz said, and added that kindergarten applicants must be five by Sept. 1. She cited "MDE guidelines" as the basis for those cutoffs.
Officials said the district will offer a range of early childhood schedules. Three-year-old classes (the "little miners" option) will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays with morning and afternoon sessions. Four-year-old students will be offered either a three-day program (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or a full-time five-day option; full school days generally run about 8:05 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
A new kindergarten "signing day" will give incoming students a short ceremony with photo opportunities. "We're going to do that for our new kindergarteners coming in next year," Getz said; the district will provide certificates and t-shirts donated by the Crest PTO, and the Crest mascot Yona will appear for photos.
Getz said staff will be on site to help families who need assistance with online registration or prefer paper forms. The district is also promoting the event on its CI Community Ed Instagram and the CI School District accounts.
Parents who cannot find exact session times on social media should consult the district website or contact Community Education directly; Getz noted that some event times were stated differently during the conversation and that the website/catalog contains the authoritative schedule.
The open house and registration help are part of the district's efforts to ease transitions for early learners and to ensure families complete bussing and registration forms ahead of fall enrollment.
