The Amity Board of Education recognized the 2025 Class L boys cross country state champions at its March 23 special meeting, with Assistant Athletic Director Joe Stockmaw presenting plaques and listing the team's accomplishments.
"My name is Joe Stockmaw. I'm the assistant AD here filling in for Ernie," Stockmaw said as he introduced the team and described the season: Housatonic Division champions, SCC runner-up, Class L state champions and sixth overall in the opens. He named Captain Luke Cushing (all SCC and all-state Class L), other team members and Coach Gary Pope.
Board members applauded the team's wins and extended congratulations. The board chair noted it had been several years since the district had a state championship in cross country and urged the athletes to "do it again." The students and coach were presented with commemorative plaques.
The recognition was presented as part of the meeting's opening agenda and did not include any board action or vote beyond the ceremonial acknowledgement. No awards or budget decisions were made on the record at this time; the presentation concluded with the board thanking the students and excusing them from the meeting.
