PORT BARRE, La. — The Town of Port Barre’s Mayor and Board of Aldermen/Alderwoman unanimously voted Dec. 4 to hire Robert Janise as a full‑time, post‑certified police officer and approved the town’s public meeting schedule for 2025.
Mayor John P. Ardoin opened the regular meeting and noted councilmembers Donald Robin, Sammy W. Hardy II, Gregory P. Hardy, Ronnie Kimble and Susie Hebert were present. Councilmember G. Hardy moved to approve the minutes of the Nov. 5 regular meeting; S. Hardy seconded and the vote was unanimous.
In a separate motion, Ronnie Kimble moved and Susie Hebert seconded to set the town’s 2025 public meeting dates for the first Tuesday of each month on the following schedule: Jan. 7; Feb. 4; March 4; April 1; May 6; June 3; July 1; Aug. 5; Sept. 2; Oct. 7; Nov. 4; Dec. 2. The measure passed unanimously.
On the recommendation of Chief Deon Boudreaux, the council approved hiring Robert Janise as a full‑time, post‑certified police officer. The motion, made by Donald Robin and seconded by S. Hardy, was recorded as unanimous.
Mayor Ardoin also called on Quan Pickney of the PBHS 4‑H Club to outline plans for a Mardi Gras parade; the mayor and council said they had "no objection" to the event. Chief Deon Boudreaux presented the police department’s monthly activity report. Superintendent Gregory Leger summarized recent works‑department activities.
Parks and Recreation Director Kyla Rivette was not in attendance; the mayor provided a brief update on parks, recreation and youth‑league activities. Later in the meeting, Gregory P. Hardy moved and Donald Robin seconded a motion accepting the town’s financial reports and accounts; the motion carried unanimously.
