Councilman John Thomas said he had been ‘‘going back and forth’’ on the decision but would support approval because the building is state-stamped, and he asked that the academy agree to comply with the town’s commercial regulations. Thomas asked that the front of the building facing Highway 43 be finished with vinyl, stucco or brick and that the structure meet all applicable commercial codes and fire marshal requirements.
Ross Kinchen told the council that Beginning Prep Academy had appeared before the Planning & Zoning Committee and that because the proposed building did not meet the ordinance there, the applicant needed council approval to proceed.
The council voted: Yeas — K. Stewart, Jerry Glascock, Don Onofry and John Thomas; Abstain — Gerald Stilley; Nays — none. The motion to grant the waiver therefore passed. After the vote, Councilman Jerry Glascock moved to adjourn; Councilman Gerald Stilley seconded. The meeting adjourned at 4:19 p.m.
