Albany council approves police SUV purchase, equipment and IT upgrades

At its Oct. 14, 2024 regular meeting, the Town of Albany council voted unanimously among members present to approve several purchases and contracts for the police department and town information technology systems.
The council approved purchasing a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe for the police department from Parkway Chevrolet for $53,394. Councilwoman Kim Stewart moved the measure, and Councilman Don Onofry seconded; Councilwoman Kim Stewart, Councilman Jerry Glascock and Councilman Don Onofry voted yes. Councilmembers Gerald Stilley and J. Thomas were recorded as absent.
The council also approved a $50,000 purchase of various police equipment. Councilman Jerry Glascock moved the equipment purchase and Councilwoman Kim Stewart seconded; the motion passed on the same 3-0 vote of members present.
Separately, the council approved information-technology upgrades recommended by Rock It Computers — described in the minutes as server, computer and SharePoint upgrades — for a total of $15,813.95 and authorized the mayor to sign the vendor quote. The motion was made by Councilman Don Onofry and seconded by Councilman Jerry Glascock and passed unanimously among members present.
Council members also authorized the mayor to sign a contract with QuickPD to upgrade the police department’s software to a web-based system at a stated cost of $70 per month; the minutes note that figure as "$50 a month plus $5 per user." The motion to approve the QuickPD contract was made by Councilman Don Onofry and seconded by Councilman Jerry Glascock; it passed with all present voting yes.
Chief Boyd Wild reported the number of police calls for September and requested a meeting with the personnel committee; the minutes do not record further detail about staffing or the schedule for that follow-up. Trapper Kinchen informed the council and community about an annual bake sale scheduled for Nov. 1.
