Albany council adopts compliance questionnaire, donates surplus Tahoe and hires maintenance worker

The Town of Albany council on Aug. 12 approved several routine and personnel actions, adopted a compliance document for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024, and set a public hearing on the town’s 2024 reassessment.
Mayor Eileen Bates-McCarroll opened the meeting at 6:00 p.m. with a prayer led by Councilman Gerald Stilley and the Pledge of Allegiance. Auditors Megan Lynch and Brody Howes of James, Lambert, Riggs & Associates addressed the council about planning for the June 30, 2024 audit and reviewed the Louisiana Compliance Questionnaire; the council then adopted that questionnaire by motion of Councilman Gerald Stilley, seconded by Councilman Jerry Glascock, with all council members voting in favor.
The council approved the July 2024 meeting minutes on a motion by Councilman Don Onofry, seconded by Councilman Jerry Glascock. The vote recorded Yeas: Kim Stewart, Jerry Glascock, Gerald Stilley and Don Onofry; John Thomas abstained. The council then approved the July 2024 financial statements on a motion by Councilwoman Kim Stewart, seconded by Councilman Don Onofry; the vote was unanimous.
Water Superintendent Ben Thompson reported on a water-department personnel item, and Chief Boyd Wild told the council about July call volumes and said the department may hire a new officer in the coming months. Separately, the council approved a motion by Councilwoman Kim Stewart, seconded by Councilman Don Onofry, to declare a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe (VIN #139454) surplus and donate it to the Rosedale Police Department; the motion passed unanimously.
The council also approved hiring Ethan Nelson for the maintenance department at $14 per hour, with a six-month probationary period and a $0.50 hourly increase after probation; the hire was made retroactive to July 29, 2024. The motion was made by Councilman John Thomas, seconded by Councilman Jerry Glascock, and passed unanimously.
Mayor Bates-McCarroll announced plans to roll forward the 2024 reassessment at a maximum millage of 7.040 and scheduled a public hearing for Monday, Sept. 23, at 4:30 p.m., followed by a special meeting to vote. The meeting adjourned at 6:56 p.m.
