Interlaken council approves tentative FY2027 budget and PPTIS, schedules budget hearings

The Interlaken Town Council voted unanimously on June 2 to approve the Proposed Property Tax Impact Schedule (PPTIS) and the town’s tentative FY2027 budget, including a proposed property tax increase intended to strengthen the town’s reserve funds.
Town Administrator Smith presented the PPTIS. Mayor Greg Harrigan emphasized the need to raise taxes to continue contributions to the town’s reserve funds; Council Members Sue O’Nan and Erin Merryweather voiced support. Council Member O’Nan moved to approve the PPTIS and tentative budget and Council Member Merryweather seconded; the motion passed with all council members voting Aye.
The council also confirmed the budget and public hearing schedule for June, July and August; Council Member Merryweather noted she will be unavailable for the June 30 public hearing and council meeting. During discussion, appointee Lynn Chadderdon asked whether the town is required to carry a minimum reserves balance like a homeowners association; the council said that requirement does not apply to municipalities.
