At its April 6 meeting, the Ad Hoc Citizens Liaison Council heard an update from Advisor Rosie Beringer on local food and material supports. Beringer said residents have access to SNAP and encouraged anyone needing help to contact her for assistance.
Beringer reported that 18 states have adopted additional restrictions on what can be purchased with SNAP benefits but that Connecticut is not currently considering similar policies. She also said the town’s food pantry is full and available to residents. Fundraising for the Chester Community Fund is paused at $57,200, the council heard.
Council Chair Susan Wright described Bare Necessities, a diaper pick-up and delivery program that distributes donated baby and adult diapers to homes in Chester and Centerbrook; volunteers drive to recipients’ homes to deliver supplies. The council did not take formal action on the program at the meeting.
The council encouraged residents who need help with benefits or pantry access to contact Advisor Rosie Beringer. The council will revisit program status in future meetings.
