East China School District approves two policy updates and authorizes bus replacement

The East China School District Board of Education voted unanimously Sept. 22 to approve two Thrun policy updates and to authorize the purchase of a replacement school bus.
Per administration recommendation, the Board approved the Annual Thrun Policy Update dated June 11, 2025. The motion was made by Trustee Shawn Treadaway and seconded by Ronald Miller; the motion carried, 7-0. The Board also approved the Thrun Policy Update dated July 25, 2025. Trustee Lindsay Chopp moved the motion, which Ronald Miller seconded; it carried, 7-0.
On the transportation item, administration asked the Board to authorize purchase of a replacement for a bus recently declared a total loss. Finance Director Angie Gleason told the Board the replacement purchase "will not exceed the amount received from the insurance settlement, which totaled $72,100," and requested approval to proceed without creating an additional financial burden for the district. Jamie Haslem moved the motion, Karen Cedar seconded it, and the Board carried the measure, 7-0.
The approvals complete routine policy maintenance and authorize procurement of a like-for-like vehicle within the insurance settlement amount; no additional district funding was approved. The Board took no further action on the items at the meeting.
