Malden Park Board: splash pad rebid likely, old scout hut inspection requested, RV park hauling to be explored

Park Board members and city staff reviewed three park-related projects at the March 17 meeting, flagging procurement and repair tasks that will require follow-up.
City Administrator Jeff Mitchell reported that a contractor who had requested additional photos in February did not follow up, and that the previously received footing, plumbing and fence quotes for the proposed splash pad are more than a year old and likely no longer valid. Mitchell said David (the staff contact on the project) planned to compile a history report on the splash pad and provide it to Mitchell and City Clerk Jessie Cobb. Mitchell also said he would investigate whether the concrete quote could still be honored; Council liaison Bo Beckett noted several local parties had expressed interest in bidding.
The board discussed the Old Scout Hut and agreed it needs an inspection and updated estimates to address mold, flooring, roof and heating and air concerns. Board Member Walker Culp asked that all board members visit the building to assess what repairs will be required and requested a formal inspection to produce cost estimates.
Members also revisited a previously discussed plan to acquire an RV park unit from Poplar Bluff. The remaining issue is transport: hauling estimates from 2025 may have changed. Board Members Walker Culp and Earnest Fobbs will check local hauling options to see whether the unit can be moved more cheaply than the prior 2025 estimate. The minutes note the city's budget will be set by July and the City Council will vote on allocations in June.
No formal procurement approvals or funding allocations were recorded; the board directed staff and members to gather updated bids, estimates and reports for future consideration.
