Public Works asks for grant support and clears way for road-bid award

Savannah Clement of Public Works requested that the board provide a letter of support on county letterhead for a grant application to the Washington State Historic Preservation office and said the letter has been drafted with staff assistance.

Clement said a hearing to establish the Toodle/Burma bypass (informally called "Baby Burma" in staff discussion) is scheduled for next week and asked whether the board would like staff to present a short list of name options at that hearing. She said a resident who spoke earlier objected to the working name "Sediment Road," but indicated the resident’s objection is likely tied to a property dispute and that changing the name alone would not resolve that complaint.

Clement told commissioners that bids for the road project will be opened the next morning and asked for a placeholder on next Tuesday’s agenda to allow county staff time to complete bid paperwork and checks. "We're opening that up tomorrow morning and so we'll be able to get the bid tab and the checks done by Monday morning," she said.

She also reported staff had completed reports on a Calam River Road no-parking proposal and that, after staff verification, she expects to set a hearing in August to consider the restriction.

No formal award or policy decision was recorded during the meeting; Clement asked the board to consider the placeholder so procurement steps can proceed on the project timeline.
