Burlington Township approves 2025 road package, transfers $47,000 to cover costs

Burlington Township Board approved a package of road projects for 2025 and moved money to cover near-term costs at its Nov. 14 regular meeting.

The board voted to spend a total township share of $85,590 for multiple re-graveling and resurfacing jobs, including work on 10 Mile (north township line to M Drive S), 8 Mile (L Drive S. to M Drive S.), M Drive S. (7 Mile to 10 Mile), 8.5 Mile (M Drive S. to N Drive S.) and 9 Mile (M Drive S. to O Drive S.). The board also approved returning 9.5 Mile Road between M and N Drive S. to gravel at a township match cost of $9,072, contingent on approval of a petition from property owners along that stretch. The motion to approve the projects was made by Clerk Darlene Mack and seconded by Jeanette Demski; the motion carried.

To cover funding needs, the board approved a budget amendment to increase line 101-265-806 by $47,000 and transferred $47,000 from Honor Credit Union to the township's General Checking account. Board member Susan Mack moved the amendment and Clerk Darlene Mack seconded; the measure carried.

Supervisor Jeffrey Eyre noted the gravel conversion on 9.5 Mile Road is contingent on a property-owner petition; the board did not authorize the work until that petition is approved. The board recorded no dissent in the minutes; all motions listed in the record were carried.

The board also authorized transport of township Truck #661 to Valley Truck in Grand Rapids for transmission repairs at an estimated combined transport-and-repair cost of approximately $8,340.43; Supervisor Eyre moved the motion and Barton Boyer seconded. Kevin Decker of Decker Insurance Agency said he would check whether the township's insurance policy might cover any of the repair costs.
