Council approves new assistant director role in economic and community development

Britney, a department staff member, described the change as a promotion that reflects expanded responsibilities and frequent delegation of leadership tasks to the employee currently serving as an administrative assistant. "That department would not function if we did not have her working alongside me on a daily basis," Britney said, arguing the role needs to be elevated to assistant director to match the duties performed.
Councilors asked whether the proposed pay range would allow the village to recruit a qualified replacement if the promoted employee left; Britney said the range was intended to permit recruitment should that occur. Officials noted the pay increase is within amounts already appropriated in the annual budget and would allow future merit adjustments within the new range.
A motion to create the assistant director position and adopt the compensation change was made, seconded and adopted by the council. The legislation implementing the change was described as required to formalize the position and pay scale.
