The Tega Cay Stormwater and Environmental Committee on March 10, 2025, assigned committee members to develop stormwater education materials, follow up with outside partners and agencies, and consider an outreach table at Catawba Fest, according to the meeting minutes.
Vice Chairwoman Heather Jones reported she had contacted the school district about stormwater educational materials but had not received a response and said she would follow up before the committee’s April meeting. Ben Buchanan, environmental and zoning compliance officer, said he had reached out to Clemson Extension and similarly had not yet heard back and would follow up.
Committee member Lauren Kohut volunteered to prepare a map of the city’s greenspaces using York County’s GIS resources after Buchanan noted such maps are available there. The committee identified a set of social-media-friendly topics and assigned research leads: Kohut will research pollutants (including oil from vehicles and litter); Maureen Norcutt will look into sediment discharge and the life-cycle of stormwater; Jones will prepare material on leaf-season issues and clearing storm drains; and Wes Worden will examine maintenance of private storm drains.
Minutes also record that “Committee member McInnis” gathered educational materials from the Riverkeepers Association; the minutes list Robin McInnis among absentees for this meeting, so the record appears to reference materials McInnis collected prior to March 10.
The committee agreed to explore installing drain markers to differentiate city and private storm drains. Worden will research neighboring communities’ programs. Jerry Church said he would review Tega Cay social media for resident-raised stormwater issues. The group discussed hosting a table at Catawba Fest on Sept. 27 and decided to revisit the idea at the April meeting.
Procedural items recorded in the minutes included a motion by Committee member Jerry Church to approve the Feb. 5, 2025, meeting minutes with a corrected typo; Committee member Maureen Norcutt seconded the motion, and the minutes state it passed unanimously. At adjournment, Norcutt moved to adjourn, the motion was seconded by Ben Buchanan, and the meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
The committee’s next substantive step is to report back on the assigned outreach research at its April meeting, per the minutes.
