The Heart of Habersham Downtown Development Authority voted Oct. 1 to provide $400 from DDA funds to help cover food costs for the city’s Halloween event on Oct. 31, 2025, and outlined plans for a Dec. 4 tree lighting at City Park.
The board discussed operational details for Halloween, including Rebecca Brantley asking the Piedmont Art Club to participate and a staff member identified only as Megan confirming lighting needs. Board members said the Police and Fire Departments will serve hot dogs, chips and drinks; the DDA noted that about 700 people were served at last year’s event at a cost of roughly $1,000 to the General Fund. Jamie Allred offered to donate 600 buns, and Patti Davis was asked to check whether Accordia Urgent Care can donate bottled water. The board approved a $400 contribution for food in a motion by Rebecca Brantley, seconded by Christy Ryals; the motion carried unanimously.
The DDA also discussed promotional items for distribution at events (examples mentioned: coffee mugs, rubber bracelets, pens) but did not record a motion beyond the food contribution. For the tree lighting, the board set Dec. 4, 6:30–7:30 p.m. at City Park, with a performance by the Demorest Elementary 4th and 5th grade chorus and a special appearance by Santa.
No further funding allocations were recorded for promotional items; event logistics noted suppliers and department support. The board entered an executive session later in the meeting and took no additional public actions related to these events before adjourning.
