Select Board rejects low-value redevelopment proposal for 6 Dane Street, asks staff to solicit interest

The Kennebunk Select Board on March 24 rejected a proposal for redevelopment of town-owned property at 6 Dane Street after the Facilities Subcommittee determined the offer — a lease proposing no more than $800 per month with the town to maintain the property — would produce inadequate return.
Select Board member Karen Plattes said the subcommittee found the cost structure prohibitive and recommended rejecting the proposal. The subcommittee recommended staff reach out to vendors who had registered interest on the town website to determine if others want to pursue redevelopment.
The Town Manager said the proposer who sought an extension likely will not be ready until June and recommended the town not issue another RFP until more information is gathered. The board approved the motion to reject the proposal 7-0 (moved Karen Plattes; second Leslie Trentalange).
At the same meeting the board approved routine items including the consent agenda (minutes and donations), approved the Non-Zoning Ordinance Fee & Penalty Schedule as written for the current year, and established polling hours for the June 9 election while appointing Merton Brown as Warden. All routine motions passed by unanimous voice/show-of-hands votes.
The Facilities Subcommittee and town staff will continue outreach to registered vendors and return to the Select Board with any new proposals or recommendations before the board authorizes a new solicitation.
