Demorest DDA moves Halloween event next to park, plans holiday tree-lighting and volunteer outreach

The Demorest Downtown Development Authority on Sept. 3 approved an amended agenda to add discussion of events and agreed to move the Halloween celebration scheduled for Friday, Oct. 31 (5–8 p.m.) to the space next to the park on the lower part of Georgia Street while keeping the downtown area open.
The decision, approved unanimously after the agenda amendment carried, reflects planning to stage the event adjacent to the park and to use temporary moveable signs to encourage parking. The fire and police departments will provide hot dogs and chips for the event, according to meeting notes. The board discussed parking pressures related to recent and planned business openings downtown and strategies to improve signage and incentivize off-street parking.
DDA member Shawn Allen said he plans to volunteer at the Chattahoochee Mountain Fair (Sept. 5–13) and the board discussed using that appearance and other outreach to promote downtown events. DDA member Patti Davis offered T-shirts and gift cards and said she will assemble gift baskets for promotion; DDA member Jamie Alred pledged four $25 gift cards. Members discussed creating similar promotional baskets for future events.
The board also discussed possible dates for the annual tree-lighting, proposing Dec. 1 or Dec. 4; no final date was set. Christy Ryals was assigned to follow up on next steps for events and outreach. Meeting minutes indicate leaders are monitoring parking impacts as Bangkok Haus opens downtown and will refine signage plans ahead of event nights.
Next steps: staff or board members will finalize logistics and signage for the Oct. 31 event and return any final decisions to the council or a future DDA meeting as needed.
