Josephine County board continues ordinance hearing, approves consent calendar and hears public comments

The board then opened the meeting to public comment. Judy Ahrens, a Josephine County resident, invited the public to a 250th anniversary Declaration of Independence reading at 11:00 a.m. on the courthouse steps on Saturday and encouraged volunteers to help clean litter from 6th and 7th streets. "Please join us if you can and bring your chair," Ahrens said.
Eva Voris of Grants Pass asked the county to formally acknowledge Pride Month, saying the LGBTQIA community faces heightened threats and that recognition would show local support. "I would like to see Josephine County acknowledge pride month," Voris said.
After public comment the board moved to approve the consent calendar, which included draft minutes and routine items. The motion passed on a roll call, 3 to 0. No individual vote names were recorded in the public transcript; the board recorded the motion as carried 3 to 0.
The chair also used the meeting to warn residents about an active fire season, citing long-term forest recovery concerns after major burns and urging caution during July 4 celebrations. Commissioner Martin offered Independence Day well-wishes and urged safe celebrations before the chair adjourned the meeting at 9:14 a.m.
No formal decisions were made on Ordinance 2026-001 at the July 1 session beyond the scheduled continuation; the board did not take additional votes on policy items during this meeting.
