COA advisory board reports February ridership decline, new bus to expand trips

The COA Advisory Board on March 16 received a director's report showing February transportation totaled 186 trips, including 38 medical rides and 164 shopping and event trips, and that overall attendance for the month was down about 6% from a year earlier. The director attributed the decline to poor weather and the usual winter migration of some residents to Florida.
The report said staff adjusted after Liturgical Publications moved The View print deadline two weeks earlier, and that March programming was busy. Board members were told that a new COA bus is now available and will permit planning of greater numbers of event trips for participants.
Committee updates at the meeting included a HESSCO briefing noting improvements in home health care and a request for an 8% budget increase, a forthcoming FSCOA town-wide fundraising mailing, and AARP's ongoing efforts to preserve Medicare and Affordable Care Act funding. The board unanimously accepted the Feb. 9 minutes during the meeting.
The board set its next meeting for April 13. No formal policy votes or new budget authorizations were recorded in the director's report; staff follow-ups were noted for programming and transportation planning.
