Hillman and Montmorency Township plan two-station fire coverage; millage to fund 2026 costs

President Dave Hornbacher introduced Brian Rogers, President of the Montmorency Township Board. Rogers said the plan calls for two fire stations—one at Canada Creek and one located in the village—and that Montmorency Township will pay for them through millage funds in 2026. Rogers said he is "very optimistic" the new station will improve insurance rates and stated the stations are within one to five miles of Clear Lake and M-33.
Council materials indicate Hillman would operate two stations and that Hornbacher would serve as chief for both locations during an initial one-year test. Trustee Velma Brown reported recent volunteer recruitment and fire/ambulance statistics following an ice storm.
No formal intergovernmental agreement was finalized at the May 6 meeting; the report was presented as an update and the Council did not vote on funding at this session. The council recorded the exchange and expects further operational and financing details to follow.
