Hillman council sets sick-leave rollover cap under new state law

The Village of Hillman council set a limit on sick-leave carryover at its March 4 meeting, agreeing that 40 hours may roll over but that an employee may not accumulate more than 80 hours in a year as the village updates its policy to comply with the state Earned Sick Time Act.
Manager Dave Post introduced a proposed Sick Time Policy to conform the villagesick-leave accrual to the requirements of the state law. The council debated how unused hours would carry over and agreed on the 40-hour rollover cap and an annual accumulation cap of 80 hours. According to the meeting record, Post said he would rewrite the sick-time policy and "have the attorney look over [it] before we set it in place."
The change is a policy-level adjustment prompted by the recently passed Earned Sick Time Act; the council did not adopt a final ordinance or resolution at the meeting and directed Post to return a revised draft after legal review. No vote on a final policy was recorded.
