GPAC member asks how community mitigation funds will be handled; staff say program administered separately

Paul Pinelli asked GPAC staff how the committee would engage with decisions about community mitigation funds and whether GPAC would make recommendations to the Gaming Commission and the Legislature.
Executive Director Dean Serpa responded that the community mitigation fund is administered through a different department of the commission, that funding for the program has changed in recent fiscal years, and that staff and commissioners have been consulting stakeholders and legislators about appropriate uses. Serpa said the fund ‘‘is in a decent position at this moment in time’’ and that staff would follow up with Paul Pinelli to clarify how GPAC or a GPAC subcommittee could provide input.
Chair Jordan Maynard added that versions of the FY27 budget in the House, Senate and governor’s proposal all include the fund in some form, though each differs from the fund at its peak level. Staff said they would report back with details on the appropriate committee path for recommendations.
Next steps: Staff will follow up with Pinelli about how GPAC feedback can be channeled and whether a GPAC subcommittee should handle recommendations to the commission and legislature; no formal decision was taken at the meeting.
