Commission formalizes library board appointments; Coleman Parsley approved, Echo Snyder assigned to Nixa seat July 1

The Christian County Commission met in a special session to resolve how recently selected members of the county library board of trustees should be assigned to geographic zones and to formalize appointments.

Will Lightenberg, who addressed the commission about the board’s concern, said the meeting was called to clear up a timeline problem and make the selection record explicit. “We want the library to succeed,” Lightenberg said, framing the decision as focused on ensuring effective representation for the library system.

Commissioners and staff discussed that Mary’s term does not expire until June 30, so any replacement would take effect July 1. One commissioner noted the statute governing library appointments does not specify geographic regions, though the library board has historically sought geographic representation across zones.

To put the earlier, informal discussion on the record, a commissioner made a motion to approve Coleman Parsley to the current open position and to have Echo Snyder assigned to the Nixa zone beginning July 1. The mover said, “I’ll make the motion to approve Coleman Parsley to the current open position, and Echo Snyder will then be in your Nixa zone, beginning July 1.” The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.

Commissioners said Echo Snyder may attend board meetings before July 1, but would not be seated as a trustee until the term is effective. The commission recorded routine opening remarks that there were no financial reports or minutes for this special meeting.

The commission adjourned after briefly praising the library system and its board members.
