Bill Dunleavy told council he had submitted a permit for a St. Patrick's Day event on Saturday, March 15 and thanked staff for a successful Polar Bear Plunge earlier in the year. Town staff reviewed six special-event permit requests and recommended several conditions, including obtaining South Carolina Department of Transportation approval for any late-night service, requiring two portable toilets and one portable dumpster for each alcohol-serving business, and limiting live-music hours.
After discussion and questions from council, the town set final event conditions: Station 22.5 will be closed to traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on March 15, and alcohol service must stop at 5:30 p.m. to allow staff time to reopen the road to traffic. Staff earlier noted a request from the event organizer to serve until 7:00 p.m. but said that later service would require SCDOT approval.
Council did not record additional conditions beyond the portable toilet and dumpster requirement and the stop-of-service time; staff will finalize permit language and notify applicants of the requirements.
