Deep River committee advances energy outreach, data access and municipal solar options

Deep River SustainableCT Committee members on April 9 discussed a package of energy initiatives aimed at improving local outreach, data collection and potential municipal solar installations.
Sara, a committee member, said the group plans to collaborate with neighboring towns on the HeatSmart campaign and other organizations, including Terri Eikel of IREJN, to broaden community outreach. "I signed an agreement with Eversource that will allow access to the website with energy data," Sara said, adding that the committee recovered an older Profile Manager login with historical data and now needs to update building profiles.
Lenore outlined a volunteer-led light-pole inventory to identify Eversource-lit poles; the committee set a target completion date of May 22, with a GIS working session on May 14 and a May 23 field day planned. "We want one committee member with two students per team and to start downtown," Lenore said.
Bernie from PACE will analyze targeting by street and demographics to support outreach, and the group plans targeted mailings to landlords and environmental-justice communities. "Bernie will be analyzing the targeting by street and demographics," the committee noted, and Region 4 schools will distribute Home Energy Survey flyers to students' families.
Members reviewed Greenbank's Solar MAP+ program to identify municipal rooftop and site opportunities. The committee discussed two common financing models: Greenbank ownership of infrastructure with an energy-discount model, or municipal self-ownership that requires upfront payment or financing.
Jeff will track the performance of the Loop EV chargers at the town library to inform future charging decisions. The committee did not take a formal vote on funding or contracts during the meeting; next steps include the May 14 GIS session, completing the light-pole inventory by May 22, and following up with Eversource to provision data access.
