Shelby council approves sale of Parcel D, hires two seasonal workers and OKs security cameras

Shelby — At its May 7 meeting the Shelby City Council approved several routine but official actions: the sale of Parcel D to Marne-Elkhorn Telephone Company, two seasonal hires, scheduling of a budget amendment public hearing and a security camera purchase.
On a motion by Pat Honeywell, seconded by Jackie Hursey, the council approved Resolution 5-242 to sell Parcel D (part of the abandoned Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Company state grounds, north half of Section 33, T78N R40W) to Marne-Elkhorn Telephone Company for $10,000. The public hearing on the sale drew no objections and Mayor Ron Kroll closed the hearing at 7:25 p.m.
The council also set a public hearing on a proposed FY 2023–24 budget amendment for May 21, 2024 (motion by Karen Schlueter, second by Todd Frank). The council approved hiring applicants Joey Brenneis and Aidan Martin as seasonal employees starting May 13; Brenneis will be paid $18.00 per hour and Aidan Martin $15.00 per hour (motion by Schlueter, second by Honeywell; roll call: all ayes).
In procurement action, on motion by Honeywell and second by Hursey the council approved a proposal from Verkada Security Systems for six security cameras, installation and licensing for $17,861.00. The minutes record roll-call approval for these items as "all ayes."
Other items approved on the consent agenda included minutes from April meetings, the treasurer's report and payment of bills. The meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
