Homeowners on Raven Drive described chronic flooding and asked the Council to consider allowing more than one foot of fill for affected lots. Several commenters, including Angie Polk and Todd Abedon, raised concerns that existing stormwater outfalls lack filtration and could carry pollution into local waterways.
Administrator correspondence presented to Council echoed the split in public opinion: multiple written submissions were listed in favor of Cove Creek dredging while at least one noted opposition. Staff and the Land Use and Natural Resources Committee said they are gathering more information from staff, Fort Moultrie (the federal parks department) and state agencies before scheduling a committee meeting to consider dredging feasibility and permitting pathways.
Council did not take a vote on dredging at the meeting; Town staff indicated further study and interagency coordination will be needed before any permitting or construction steps.
