Sullivan's Island — Town officials heard plans for the 2025 Carolina Day celebration and approved ceremonial recognitions at their June 17 meeting.
Christopher Reid of the National Park Service and Cheri Yates of Friends of SC National Parks described the Carolina Day schedule at Fort Moultrie on Saturday, June 28, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m., with talks, activities, food trucks and a keynote speech at 6 p.m. The event is free. Brett Spaulding of the National Park Service said the event serves as a "dress rehearsal" for a larger 250th anniversary commemoration next year and noted the superintendent will request town coordination with Carta and Mt. Pleasant on traffic management.
Mayor Patrick O'Neil read a proclamation recognizing the victory by South Carolina patriots commanded by Colonel William Moultrie on June 28, 1776; the council approved the proclamation unanimously. The council also approved a resolution recognizing the LENS-SI Foundation; Ali Barney described the foundation's objectives and upcoming events, and representatives from related organizations presented a first aid kit to Police Chief Glenn Meadows.
The Carolina Day event is scheduled for June 28 at Fort Moultrie; town and park staff will coordinate logistics in the coming weeks.
