The Surgoinsville board held first readings of two ordinances on Jan. 12.
Ordinance 193‑2026, proposing a minimum livable floor area requirement for dwellings, was presented on its first reading. Alderman Mierek moved to approve the first reading and Alderman Bishop seconded; roll call was unanimous to move the ordinance forward on first reading.
Ordinance 194‑2026, to adopt a schedule of reasonable charges for copies of public records, was presented on its first reading. Alderman Hoss moved the ordinance forward and Alderman Bishop seconded; the roll call vote passed with one No recorded and the remaining votes in favor. The minutes do not record which member cast the No vote nor specify the fee amounts included in the proposed schedule.
Both items remain at the first‑reading stage (194‑2026 will require a subsequent reading or formal adoption at a later meeting to take effect).
