Surgoinsville’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen acted on multiple public‑works and emergency equipment items at its Jan. 12 meeting.
The board authorized an emergency repair for a garbage truck to address a transmission fluid leak, totaling $575.90 (repair dated Dec. 10, 2025). Alderman Bishop moved to authorize the emergency purchase and Alderman Hoss seconded; the roll call vote was unanimous.
The board approved purchase of a 2008 International brush truck from the City of Alcoa for $25,000 and approved the associated budget amendment to account 110‑43190‑943. Alderman Hoss moved the purchase and Alderman Bishop seconded; the motion passed by unanimous roll call.
Members declared a 2006 Ford brush truck surplus and authorized Police Chief Hammonds to list it for sale on GovDeals. Alderman Mierek moved the surplus declaration; Alderman Bishop seconded and the board voted unanimously.
The board also approved purchase of a Quincy air compressor with a three‑year warranty for placement at Fire Station #1 at a total cost of $2,264, to be split between the Fire Department and the Maintenance Department; the existing, nonfunctioning compressor was declared surplus. Alderman Bishop moved the purchase, Alderman Mierek seconded, and the vote was unanimous.
Several of these items were recorded as motions with roll call votes; the minutes do not record individual member vote choices beyond the collective tallies. The board added Resolution 168‑2026 to the agenda to enter an interlocal agreement for mutual public‑works assistance; that motion also passed unanimously.
