Spencer names Economic Development and Tourism Council members; chamber event road-closure request tabled

The Spencer City Council on Aug. 29 approved Mayor Farmer’s recommended appointments to a newly created Economic Development and Tourism Council.
The mayor’s slate named Brad Taylor as food and beverage representative; Lesa Boulding for outdoor recreation; Mika Davis for the Chamber of Commerce seat; Kenny Delon for banking and investment; Susan Spears for hotel-motel representation; Gage Farmer for short-term owner/operator; David Cook as local historian and museum director; Earl Delong for local arts and crafts; CeCe Martain for wedding and party venues; Rebecca Harris for retail owner/operator; and Chris Binkley for agriculture. Vice Mayor Drew Campbell moved the appointments; Alderman Jerry Blankenship seconded and the council approved the full slate by unanimous consent of members present.
Mika Davis of the Chamber asked permission to close Burritt College Drive, Spring Street and Billingsley Street for a proposed historic ghost tour and a ‘trail of treats’ for Halloween. Council tabled the road-closure request until the September meeting to allow the Chamber to provide additional event details.
Council also discussed and approved a revised holiday meeting schedule, moving the October meeting to Oct. 24, the November meeting to Nov. 21 and the December meeting to Dec. 19 to avoid holiday conflicts.
The appointments establish the council’s initial membership; the Chamber’s event request will return to the council once organizers provide the requested details.
