LaSalle County committee approves resolution to appoint election judges; clerk authorized to file report

The LaSalle County Taxes, Elections & GIS Committee voted to approve a resolution authorizing the county clerk to submit the clerk’s report selecting judges of election, a step the resolution says is required under Illinois law for the appointment of election judges.

Chair Doug Trager read the resolution to the committee, which described the statutory requirement that the county board select election judges in the July meeting of even-numbered years and directed the clerk to file the report so judges can be commissioned under 10 ILCS 5/13-2 and 10 ILCS 5/13-3. The resolution text included a signature line stating, verbatim, "Passed and approved this day, July 9th, 2026," while the committee meeting occurred on June 30, 2026.

Mr. Blue moved to approve the resolution and Mr. Templeton seconded. The chair conducted a roll-call vote in which individuals recorded in the transcript as "Jill," "Nancy," "Tom," "Ron" and Doug Trager voted yes; the motion carried. Mr. Slagger and Mr. Bailey were noted as not present earlier in the meeting.

Under the resolution the county clerk is authorized to file the clerk’s report with the circuit court clerk to request confirmation and appointment of the judges and to distribute a certified copy of the resolution to the chief judge of the 13th judicial district.

The committee did not record any amendments to the resolution. The next procedural step stated in the approved text is the clerk’s filing with the circuit court and distribution to the chief judge as described in the resolution.
