What passed and what was held: Trustees discussed several items in the packet, including a proposed acceptable-use policy for generative artificial intelligence and a revision to student-rights language that addresses transgender students. The board’s policy chair said most changes were minor but flagged that the AI policy is an interim measure pending a customized district policy written by a standing committee. Two policies (5710 and 5714) were omitted from the approved package because the district’s mental-health coordinator and the behavioral threat-assessment team are still finalizing recommended language.
Why it matters: The approved updates keep the district's policy manual in compliance with its TRUN subscription review process and allow the policy committee time to refine items with specialized input (mental-health staff, behavioral-threat assessment members, finance and technology staff where relevant).
Next steps: The omitted policies will return to the committee after the mental-health director and the threat-assessment team complete their revisions. The board chair encouraged participation in the committee review and noted the policy committee will meet again in early January to continue the work.
