Eastpointe board approves new hires, names Paris McCarthy activities and athletic director

The Eastpointe Community Schools Board of Education on Oct. 28 approved a slate of instructional and noninstructional hires, including the appointment of Paris McCarthy as activities and athletic director.

Executive Director of Human Resources Julie Alpa recommended McCarthy, saying she holds an administration certificate, has extensive coaching experience and has served on the MHSAA basketball rules committee and the tournament site selection committee. Alpa noted McCarthy’s teams won league championships and that interviewers and students cited her “genuine passion and respect for students.” Alpa said McCarthy “presented exciting plans for building and expanding our programs” and that the district is confident she will be “a valuable addition to our Eastpointe Community family.”

The board moved and approved support for the instructional hires by roll call earlier in the meeting. The board later voted to approve the noninstructional hires and the recommended appointment; the motion carried. Staff also acknowledged several new food‑service hires and other support staff on board that were not in attendance.

Why it matters: Filling the activities and athletics director role and approving both instructional and noninstructional hires supports extracurricular programming and front‑line school operations ahead of the next school year and extracurricular seasons.

Next steps: Newly hired staff will be integrated into district assignments; board members invited awardees and guests to remain after the meeting for photographs.
