Martin Board elects Teri Beilby president, V. Tuinstra vice president

The Martin Board of Education elected Trustee Teri Beilby president and Trustee V. Tuinstra vice president during its Jan. 13, 2025 meeting at the Martin Public Schools media center.

Trustee Jason Dykstra nominated Teri Beilby for president; nominations were closed and the board elected Beilby by unanimous vote. Dykstra also nominated V. Tuinstra for vice president; Tuinstra was chosen unanimously. Trustee J. Brinkhuis was elected treasurer and Jason Dykstra was elected secretary, both by unanimous votes. The Administrative Assistant was selected by unanimous vote to serve as recording secretary and is recorded in the minutes as Kendra Sweeting.

Why it matters: Leadership and committee assignments set the calendar and oversight for district business in 2025, including curricular, personnel and financial responsibilities handled by the board's standing committees.

The board finalized committee rosters: Business Functions will be handled by Beilby, Tuinstra and Brinkhuis; Curriculum & Safety by Beilby, Dykstra and Thompson; Personnel & Policy by Tuinstra, Curry and Oxender. The board also named representatives for organizational memberships: the Allegan County School Boards Association (ACSBA) delegate will be Board President Teri Beilby, with Trustee C. Oxender as alternate; the Martin Education Foundation delegate will be Trustee E. Curry, with Treasurer J. Brinkhuis as alternate.

President Beilby moved and Secretary Dykstra supported the motion to approve the organizational items; the motion carried unanimously. The meeting minutes list the ayes as E. Curry, J. Dykstra, C. Oxender, J. Thompson, V. Tuinstra and T. Beilby.

The board is scheduled to continue routine business at its next regular meeting; no additional leadership changes were proposed during the session.
