The Malden Building Code Committee voted to endorse a $17,370 quote from Reeve's Roofing to replace the roof on Fire Station 2 and will forward the recommendation to the full City Council. Committee Member Harold Jones moved to approve the quote; Committee Member Bindy Grant seconded and the motion was recorded as carried 4–0.
Staff reported that the station roof has been patched several times and that leaks from normal wear would be covered by the quote for 10 years. City staff also said there is roughly $4,000 worth of fire trucks and equipment stored under the current roof that the city needs to protect until a new station is available.
City staff proposed allocating $10,000 from cleanup funds toward the replacement, which would leave about $7,370 to be identified from other sources or the council budget. The committee approved forwarding the quote to the City Council; the minutes record the committee vote as 4–0 but do not list individual member votes. The item will be placed on the agenda for a joint BPW and Council meeting next week for final approval.
The motion authorizes staff to take the quoted project to Council for funding consideration; no contract award was recorded at the committee level.
