District outlines multi-site solar carport work and plans to sell renewable-energy credits

The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District outlined this evening a summer schedule for solar carport construction at multiple high schools and said it will offer solar renewable energy credits (SREs) for sale in July.
Superintendent Dr. Adhold told the board the district has active plans for “several solar projects that will be taking place in five of the school's parking lots,” and said the district’s goal is for those schools to become energy neutral once work is completed. He cautioned the timing depends on permitting and utility approvals, citing the Public Service Commission and JCP&L releases needed to connect to the grid.
Dana, reporting for the finance committee, provided construction timing and project logistics: foundations are scheduled to be installed this summer at the site identified in the finance report, and structural-steel deliveries were listed with one delivery date of August 17 and other deliveries scheduled later in the fall for remaining sites. Dana also said the district will conduct an SRE sale in July; the credits were classified as Class One and she said the credits are expected to have limited market value because the solar panels have reached the end of their useful life.
The finance committee report listed these items among many motions being recommended for board approval, including contracts and renewals tied to the 2026–27 school year. No single construction contract or award was debated at length during the public meeting; the board moved the finance package as a grouped set of agenda items and voted to approve it.
What happens next: the board approved the grouped finance items tonight (see “Votes at a glance”), and district staff will proceed with permitting and contractor scheduling. The district said timing remains contingent on third-party approvals and parts deliveries.
