MetroWest Shared Services outlines maternal-health supports, plans community baby shower in Ashland

Karina Scott, Shared Services Coordinator for MetroWest Shared Services, told the Ashland Board of Health on June 2 that the regional collaboration (nine communities) provided 1,020 community health services in fiscal year 2025 and is focusing on maternal health initiatives through 2029.
Scott described the Maternal Health Initiative's offerings: baby care packages, postpartum support groups, and doula-run birthing classes offered in three languages (she said the Portuguese class is the most popular). The team has held two Community Baby Showers so far and plans a third in Ashland on June 30; Scott said organizers are preparing for at least 100 participants and that partners will include Accompany Doula Care and the Criterion Families Program. When asked whether doulas are volunteers or paid, Scott said doulas are paid through grant funding.
Board members thanked Scott for the presentation and for MetroWest's assistance at the RAM Clinic. The Board did not take formal action on the presentation.
