Ames Alliance outlines free retraining program; Nevada swears in police officer Kellen Sidnis

At the June 22 public forum, Shannon Tie of the Ames Alliance presented the group's workforce retraining program and invited people to enroll. Tie said the Alliance has offered retraining since 2022 and typically graduates about 45 participants each year. The courses, she said, are free and range from five to 15 weeks depending on the certificate track.
Tie described program supports including transportation assistance, childcare help and cash stipends: $150 midway through a class, $150 on completion, and a $300 stipend if the graduate works for a Story County employer for 30 days. Popular class tracks listed by Tie included nurse aide, sterile processing, welding and commercial driver's license training; program sign‑up is available via a QR code and through the DMAC Workforce Training Academy.
Later in the meeting the council administered the oath to full‑time police officer Kellen Sidnis. City officials said Sidnis was previously hired in 2021, has five years of prior service, spent time working in Montana and is returning to Nevada to resume duties. The oath was read and repeated in open meeting and Sidnis was welcomed as the department's newest officer.
