Volunteers outline playscape, ADA path and donated swing set; city to review costs and parking

Keep Lago Vista Beautiful presented the look and funding status for an entry wall on FM‑1431 and committee members discussed donated playground equipment, surfacing, fencing options and ADA access for a playscape project.

Janice (Speaker 5), identified as president of Keep Lago Vista Beautiful, said the group secured a state award (about $110,000) that will fund an entry wall on FM‑1431; she said the state will build the wall and the city is responsible for placing lettering and for maintenance after two years. “It's going to be very beautiful,” Janice said, and she told the committee the project has been delayed in the past by road construction but is expected to be completed in February.

Committee members and the staff packet described two individuals willing to donate compliant swing sets. Speakers discussed fencing types (wood frame vs. cattle‑panel metal), surfacing needs and the spatial footprint required for the equipment (roughly 28 by 32 feet). Staff (Speaker 2) noted some costs on the packet were estimated and other line items (fencing, installation) lacked quotes and would require formal bids.

Members emphasized ADA accessibility and an ADA path through the park; Janice and others said they planned to present a fuller plan to city council in January and invited coordination with the parks committee so projects do not overlap. The committee agreed that the playscape and donated equipment should be incorporated into the parks master plan and returned with more detailed cost and installation information.

Next steps: volunteers will prepare a January presentation for council and staff will collect installation quotes, confirm surfacing and ADA requirements and coordinate recommended siting with the parks master plan subcommittee prior to council consideration.
