The Denison City Council on Feb. 4 approved a $16,511.02 estimate from Keltek to upfit a police Inter Utility AWD with a Mobile Data Terminal after a 3-2 vote. The motion passed with Ayes from Zupp-Smith, Curnyn and Logan and Nays from Miller and Granzen. Police Chief Trejo noted, “Keltek provides a warranty on the equipment.”
Council also unanimously approved a $41,000 purchase order from Ascendance Truck Centers for a used 2006 International 4300 to be paid from 2022 bond funds. In the same consent actions, councilors unanimously approved a 28E Agreement and attachment for Alcohol Enforcement between the Iowa Department of Revenue and the Denison Police Department.
Other routine procurement matters approved included a Certified Testing Services, Inc. proposal for Main Street and Broadway overlay geotechnical exploration not to exceed $5,640, contingent on the work not having been previously engineered. Resolutions and ordinances under separate motions were handled later in the meeting.
The Keltek vote was the meeting’s closest, recorded 3-2 on the council floor; the transcript does not record the rationale for the two nay votes beyond the roll call. The approved equipment estimate is to be installed on the department vehicle and comes with the vendor warranty Chief Trejo referenced.
The council took no public comment on these items. The meeting record shows the motions were approved as part of regular business and consent agenda processes.
