Brown County commissioners honor late employee, review storm damage estimate and hold brief executive session

The Brown County Board of Commissioners opened its June 22 meeting by recognizing the passing of county employee Ron Webster. Sheriff John Merchant and Undersheriff Robbie Parker shared memories and acknowledged Webster’s service to the county.
Emergency Management Coordinator Brandon Roberts presented the board with an estimated cost of damage from the June 4–5, 2026 storms; the transcript notes an estimate was given but does not include a dollar amount. The board approved minutes from June 15 and June 18 after a motion by Commissioner Richard Tesoriero and a second from Commissioner William Pollock.
At 1:19 p.m. the board recessed into a five-minute executive session to discuss duties of non‑elected personnel to protect employee privacy; County Clerk Nicole Lee remained present. The meeting returned at 1:24 p.m. with no action taken.
Commissioner Tesoriero reported that donations for the county Patriotic Banner Project exceeded the original bracket cost by $245. The regular session adjourned at 2:59 p.m.; the board scheduled its next regular meeting for June 30, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
Separately, the commissioners held an informal work session titled “Coffee with the Commissioners” on June 25 at the Bruning Barn. Commissioners, county staff and residents discussed data centers, flock cameras, alternative bridge structures, property tax increases, the City of Hiawatha duplex project and RHID; no official action was taken at that session.
