The East Lansing Board of Education met Oct. 28 and unanimously approved several action items, including architect and construction agreements, a 100% summer tax levy resolution and adoption of the district's emergency operation plans.
The board adopted a resolution to comply with PA 52 of 2011 as presented. The board then approved two contracts: an AAB B132 agreement with King Scott Associates Incorporated and an AIA C132 agreement with Clark Construction Company. Each contract motion was moved and seconded and carried without opposition.
The board also moved to adopt the 2025 summer tax levy resolution "to impose 100% summer tax levy to collect all school property taxes," and adopted the emergency operation plans as presented. Board members said portions of the emergency plans had been discussed in closed session held under Section 8(h) of the Michigan Open Meetings Act; the board noted the emergency-operation document is extensive (described during the meeting as more than 1,000 pages).
All action motions were recorded as carrying unanimously. The meeting record shows motions were made and seconded on the floor for each item; where recorded the motions were moved by trustees and seconded according to the agenda sequence. The board did not record individual numeric vote tallies in the public spoken record beyond verbal unanimous approval.
Next steps: the board set a date for the next regular meeting on Nov. 11, 2024, when the superintendent will present renderings for an upcoming capital project.
